Hung out with these two adventurers while they were camping up in the mountains in Northern California. Getting outdoors is one of the most rejuvenating things for me, and I wanted to capture a couple in their element, without any bells or whistles, just in the simplicity of being outside together. There's no fancy dress, no fluff, no need for these photos to be used for anything, just for the simple fact of capturing your love, exactly where you are at.
I had no idea that this small set of photos would turn out to be one of the most meaningful + inspiring experiences I've had this year. The response I had from Wendy when she saw the photos had me in a puddle of tears, and I am choking up even now as I try to share this with you.
"I can't fully explain what this photo means to me. In our 3 years of being married there have been some long seasons of struggle, loneliness, frustration, and feeling in the dark. Marriage is just hard. That being said, A very wise and important person to me told me a long time ago, "keep a community around you who will remind you just how great and wonderful your spouse is. There will be seasons when it's hard to remember that on your own." Well, who knew that a photographer could not only remind me of that, but literally help me fall in love with my husband all over again. Looking through these pictures, I had forgotten the way I look at John, I had forgotten just how deeply and strongly I love this man." - Wendy
This is why I do what I do. It's only a small hope that the images I capture will in any way be meaningful, which is likely because it's usually for a wedding and is meaningful whether I am there or not, but can easily be judged based on how well I captured every inch of a perfectly planned out 10 hours on a Saturday. It's different when it isn't for anything, and the images speak to you, and remind you that we are all in this together. And if I have the opportunity to remind you of that, through the imperfect, blurry, golden retriever photo bombed images, then every bit of what I do is worth it.
Wendy just started her own guiding company in the Trinity Alps Wilderness in Northern California and if you have an itch to adventure, she's got some amazing trips you can go on! Find out more trip info here.
